Our History
The Bar Diamond Ranch was established in 1902, along the banks of the picturesque Red Deer River. The ranch is an authentic working cattle operation owned and operated by Jim and Carol Hern. The Hern family runs 650 head of Aberdeen Angus cattle on approximately 34,000 acres. The untouched natural habitat also provides safe refuge for a variety of wild life species including an outstanding array of
upland
Alberta game birds.
In the '70s and '80s, Jim and his two brothers
competed in bull riding, bareback riding and steer
wrestling on the professional rodeo circuit throughout
Canada and the United States. Most aspects of the
ranch work such as round ups, calving and branding are
still done much the same way as eighty years ago. This
is the world of true, down to earth working cowboys.
