Pheasant hunters

Alberta Pheasant and Game Bird Hunting Guides

Ron Adlington

Ron is a fanatic when it comes to pheasant hunts. He figures that his six year old Black Lab, Molly has put up at least 1800 pheasants and had at least 600 birds shot over her by other pheasant hunters in his party. Along with pheasant hunts Ron also guides on ducks, geese, sharptail grouse and Hungarian Partridge extensively in Alberta.

Ron currently has two black labs, Molly and Kate. They are sisters, 5 years apart and excellent pheasant hunters. They are out of the Jazztime Kennel in Ronan , Montana, owned by Larry and Anna Calvert, who are considered to be in the top 20 Field Trial Trainers of retrievers in North America. Ron has trained extensively with the Calverts and it shows in his dogs. Molly has her NAHRA, Grand Master title, AKC Senior Hunter, has placed in Derby, AKC field trials and has green ribbons from many AKC and CKC Qualified field trials and has now also won a CKC Qualified Field Trial. 4 more points to a title!  Ron and Molly have won numerous picnic trials and two timed "shoot to retrieve" pheasant hunting competitions. Ron often gets invited hunting to special places because of his dog! Molly will even go to the fridge and fetch a beer. No kidding!!! -- Kate, his other dog, is currently at field trial school, with Pro Trainer Doug Grant near Salmon Arm, British Columbia, and will be ready to go this fall as back up for his star, Molly.

Ron is also a qualified NAHRA Hunt Test judge and a member of 3 dog clubs.

Ron, in his working life, is also a restauranteur of renown. Ron spent 4 years in Aspen, one year in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, 17 years in Banff Alberta, 7 years in Whitefish, Montana and now three years in Calgary, all in the Bar/Restaurant business. Ron is currently the Food and Beverage Manager at the prestigious Glencoe Club in Calgary Alberta.

Phil is a resident of Calgary Alberta and has been actively hunting all over Southern Alberta for more time than he is willing to admit to. His 8 year old, yellow lab Chamois has a NAHRA Grand Master Hunter title and is well on his way to1000 NAHRA points! His 4 year old black lab, Lacy, has not competed extensively but has 4 legs towards he NAHRA Master Hunter title. Both dogs are experienced, and excellent on pheasant hunts as well as duck and goose dogs . Phil is also a long time NAHRA Field Test Judge. He has been very active in Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited over the years.

Bruce McKenna

Bruce, who resides near Medicine Hat AB, is currently on the Alberta Trapshooting Team and shoots between 8,000- 12,000 registered targets per year throughout North America.

Bruce’s hunting career started at age 5, when he started tagging along on pheasant hunts with his father and friends in southern Alberta with German Shorthaired Pointers.

Three decades later Bruce considers himself a hunting "FANATIC". Bruce has extensive experience hunting and guiding big game, waterfowl, and upland birds. For the last five years Bruce has focused on his true passion, pheasant hunting, in both North and South Dakota, Montana, and Alberta. Last year alone Bruce guided and hunted well over 500 pheasants with his three German Shorthairs. His pointers, Scout, Nikki, and Izzy, share the same passion of pheasant hunting as Bruce does and make a wonderful match. Bruce also guides waterfowl with his Black Lab Aimee. All of Bruce’s dogs are excellent pheasant hunters and have extensive training and many, many birds shot over them.

When Bruce is not hunting or guiding he owns a oilfield service company, where he has great employees to allow him to, as they say, "play".

Bruce is looking forward to showing you a hunt of a lifetime on the Alberta Western Uplands Ranch.

Devin Werewka

Devin resides in Taber, Alberta where he was born and raised. When he is not in the outdoors pursuing his love for hunting, he is in the field drumming up business for a local oil field supply company.

Devin has been very fortunate to be surrounded by the great outdoors since he was a youngster. Although he thoroughly enjoys the pursuit of big game each fall, Devin's true love is hunting with his dedicated companions, German Shorthaired Pointers, Minnie and Blitz.

He has attended numerous Canadian Kennel Club hunt tests where Field Dog titles have been attained on both of his dogs. Although the dogs' expertise is in hunting Pheasants, Minnie and Blitz have proven to be a great asset in hunting Hungarian Partridge, Sharp-tail Grouse and also various waterfowl.

As typical seasoned GSP's, both of his dogs are uncompromisingly energetic and are always eager to go that extra mile on land or water. As a team each challenge is met with diligence. Minnie, Blitz and Devin continue to excel each year in the hunting field.
